On Taking Initiatives
On Taking Initiatives
We know the right thing to do. We always do. The problem is that most times, the right thing is always the difficult thing to do, and because the self will naturally seek convenience, we always would want to opt for the easy thing which might bring us momentary pleasure or happiness. However, it always comes back to hurt.
Taking initiatives is doing the right thing without being told to do it. It is taking agency in your life. Taking initiatives is how much you can take responsibility for your life.
Many people are slack about their goals and their life. They want the good things in life but are not ready to do the work. They somehow think that these good things will come to them regardless. Somehow, they are entitled to success. They think they deserve it for just existing.
I see the ability to take the initiative as a moat – a competitive advantage. It is what sets a good employee from others. It is what sets most successful people – athletes, doctors, musicians, etc. apart from their contemporaries. Essentially, it is going over and beyond to see that you get what you have worked hard for.
To be a better person requires that you take the initiative. Do you need to write? Stand up and write. Are you learning to code? Code every single day. Do you want to become better at anything? Do it every single day.
The alternative is to sit all day and wait for the result to appear on your doorstep.
The choice is yours.
